Future Masters of Medicine Program

In partnership with Independence Health System, Saint Vincent College launched the inaugural Future Masters of Medicine program. The program is a tuition-free educational opportunity for Westmoreland County students to explore different healthcare careers over the course of six sessions.

 

National Science Foundation Grant

Saint Vincent College, in association with three other institutions of higher education, recently secured a $370,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The grant, which will be awarded over three years, is part of NSF’s Enabling Partnerships to Increase Innovation Capacity program.

 

Wrestling Mat Dedicated to Former Coach

Former wrestling coach Tom “Legs” Harbert was honored on November 12 before the Bearcat wrestling team’s home opener against Shippensburg University. Coach Harbert’s lasting impact was celebrated by naming a mat in his honor.

 

National Liberal Arts Ranking

Saint Vincent College has again been ranked highly as a top liberal arts college in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, sitting at No. 114. The College also maintained its status as a top performer in social mobility at No. 98.

 

Homecoming

On Saturday, October 5, Saint Vincent College celebrated its annual Homecoming and Fall Family Weekend. As part of the festivities, Sarah Hartner and Mason Seftas were named the 2024 Homecoming Queen and King, respectively.

 

New Board Members

Saint Vincent College Board of Directors welcomed five new members at its September meeting. New members include Dr. Christin Buehler; Reverend Francois Diouf, O.S.B., G’16; Mr. David Gaito, Jr., C’99; Reverend Ronald P. Gatman, O.S.B., S’79; and Reverend David Griffin, O.S.B., C’71, S’76.

 

Athletic Hall of Fame

Seven new members were welcomed into the Saint Vincent College Athletic Hall of Fame in October. The 2024 class included Jenna Moon, C’07 (women’s lacrosse); Shelley Muto, C’03, G’06 (women’s soccer); Victor O’Korn, C’74 (wrestling); Chansler Poole, C’14 (men’s cross country and track and field); Ron Spinosi, C’79 (men’s basketball); John D. Stith, C’14 (men’s basketball); and Christopher “Kip” Watkins, C’05 (baseball).

 

Moot Court Regional Semifinalists

Seniors Rebekah Bollman and Caleb Banwar advanced to the semifinals of the American Moot Court Association Fearless Challenge Regional on Oct. 25-26 at the University of Maryland. Bollman finished 14th and Banwar finished 21st overall.

 

Honors Convocation and Founders’ Day

This year’s honorees are Marianne Reid Anderson, C’87, of Pittsburgh; Adrienne M. Geis, C’89, of Alexandria, Virginia; Joe Hoffman, C’78, of Dallas; W. Jeffrey Hoover, C’79, of Wexford; Daniel P. Lynch, C’89, of Fombell; William A. Ramos, C’64, of Nesconset, New York; and Ronald G. Rosemeier, P’70, C’74, of Monkton, Maryland.

 

First Solo Flight of Aviation Management Program

Timothy Jakubek, Jr., a freshman from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, became the first student in the recently launched aviation management – professional pilot program to fly solo on October 17. The program enables students to earn their professional pilot’s license while receiving a well-rounded business education.
